Jakarta, indomaritim.com – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a delegation from Imperial College London to discuss a strategic partnership for higher education development, including a plan to build 10 new medical and science universities in Indonesia.
Brian Yuliarto, the Minister for Higher Education, Science, and Technology, said the meeting discussed a strategic partnership aimed at improving the quality of medical education and research in Indonesia.
“They will serve as mentors for our universities, particularly the 10 new ones. So, the quality of the lecturers, research, teaching standards, the curriculum, hospital design, and so on will be supervised by professors from Imperial College London,” Brian said after the meeting at the Presidential Palace Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, the cooperation currently being explored covers curriculum development, teaching standard refinement, joint research initiatives, and a visiting professor programme featuring the academics from Imperial College London.
Minister Brian noted the partnership has the potential to improve the quality of higher education, research, and teaching staffs in Indonesia, particularly at the new medical campuses to be built by the government.
In addition, the professors from the public research university in London also held discussions with Sigit Puji Santosa, the Chief Technology Officer of Danantara, to explore broader opportunities in the fields of education and technology.
Brian expressed confidence that the benefits of the collaboration would extend far beyond the new universities, creating a positive ripple effect for other higher education institutions across various regions by strengthening the national higher education ecosystem.
Imperial College London is one of the world’s leading universities, currently ranking second globally in the QS World University Rankings.
“If this collaboration can be realised, it will certainly present a major opportunity for Indonesia to work alongside one of the world’s top universities, enhancing the quality of our teaching and research,” Brian remarked. (Edo)
