Indonesia and Russia Share Values of Mutual Cooperation

Jakarta, indomaritim.com – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasised Indonesia and Russia share the same value in mutual cooperation, which serves as a strong foundation for the two countries to continue strengthening their partnership.

“I understand the Russian people have a saying, Odin v polye ne voin, one man cannot fight alone,” Prabowo said in his keynote remarks at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (Sept 3).

Prabowo added the saying proved that despite language differences, Indonesia and Russia have the same ancient wisdom from our forefathers.

“In Indonesia, we have the same saying. We say gotong royong, any heavy burden becomes light when we carry it together,” he continued as cited from Antara News Agency.

The Indonesian president then called his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to translate their personal friendship into concrete outcomes that would benefit the peoples of Indonesia and Russia.

Cooperation in trade, connectivity, payment systems, and joint projects should be expanded and increased, Prabowo highlighted.

“Everything we have discussed today, the tariff lines covered by the FTA, transport corridors, payment systems, and industrial projects, exists for one reason; so that a fisherman in Indonesia and a shipbuilder in Russia can each look at their children and believe that tomorrow will be better than today,” he stated.

On the same occasion, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s views on avenues for cooperation with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), while underscoring the importance of enhancing connectivity in the Pacific.

“The Pacific does not separate us. The Pacific connects us. The Pacific is not a wall between us. The Pacific is a highway for both of our economies,” Prabowo said.

President Prabowo shared the stage with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Ding Xuexiang, Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, and Myanmar Deputy Leader U Nyo Saw during the 11th EEF in Vladivostok.

During the visit, he also joined several high-level engagements, including a bilateral meeting with Putin, who hailed Indonesia as one of Russia’s key partners in the Asia Pacific region. (Edo)
