Jakarta, indomaritim.com – Indonesia and France agreed on four commercial deals worth US$3.5 billion across energy security, trade, and defense cooperation, Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani confirmed.

“The confidence of the French business community in Indonesia is on the rise. The agreements reached prove Indonesia is regarded as a strategic partner with prospects for long-term growth and a competitive investment climate,” he said.

As quoted from the Presidential Secretariat release here on Saturday, Roeslani noted that the business pacts resulted from high-level engagements between President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Thursday (May 28).

According to Antara News Agency, the minister highlighted that the two presidents also witnessed the establishment of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council, a progress he described as “a crucial milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries.”

He explained that the council offers a dialogue platform for business actors and is projected to drive strategic cooperation for mutual benefits, with a focus on investment and trade.

Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Kadin) Chair Anindya Bakrie co-leads the forum with Danone CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique.

The business council brings together 30 business leaders and prominent industrial actors from Indonesia and France, with a combined market capitalization of US$1.3 trillion.

Roeslani said the council is also expected to support the implementation of memorandums of understanding and investment commitments worth more than US$11 billion, inked during Macron’s visit to Indonesia in May last year.

“Equally important is to ensure the realization of all commitments. In this regard, the business forum will act as a platform to identify obstacles, accelerate problem solving, and support optimal investments,” the minister remarked.

He further said the newly formed council aims to boost bilateral trade threefold by 2035 with support from both governments, Kadin, and the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF).

“We are optimistic about Indonesia and France reaching a higher level in economic ties. Collaboration between government and business communities is key to spurring sustainable growth, creating jobs, and strengthening the competitiveness of both countries amid global dynamics,” he concluded. (RR)
