Surabaya, E Java, indomaritim.com – State-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) have partnered to accelerate the development of green shipyards and strengthen Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry.
President Director of PT PAL Indonesia Kaharuddin Djenod said the collaboration would enhance applied research capabilities, accelerate technological mastery, and support the company’s transition to a greener, more efficient, and globally competitive shipyard.
“The collaboration reflects BRIN’s commitment to strengthening the national research ecosystem to support the transformation of the shipbuilding industry,” Kaharuddin said in a statement issued in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday as cited from Antara News Agency.
He said the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to strengthen collaboration among industry, research institutions, and universities to reinforce the independence of Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry.
PT PAL and BRIN are preparing joint programs covering applied research, maritime technology development, commercialization of research outcomes, and human resource development.
“The implementation of low-emission technologies and energy efficiency measures will become part of our transformation toward a green shipyard,” he said.
Deputy Head of BRIN Amarulla Octavian praised PT PAL as a strategic national industry that plays an important role in strengthening Indonesia’s maritime ecosystem.
He said BRIN is ready to collaborate with PT PAL to advance the country’s shipbuilding industry through technological innovation and industrial transformation.
According to Amarulla, one of the partnership’s main objectives is to establish a green shipyard where PT PAL’s core products are manufactured through environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and innovation-driven production processes.
He said the transformation would not only improve the competitiveness of Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry but also expand PT PAL’s access to international markets.
“Global markets are increasingly demanding higher sustainability standards. Therefore, this transformation will strengthen PT PAL’s commercial capacity,” he said.(Edo)
