Jakarta, indomaritim.com – Indonesia’s Navy and the Pakistan Navy agreed to deepen military cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties during talks in Surabaya, focusing on maritime security and defense collaboration amid evolving strategic challenges in regional waters.

The initiative followed a courtesy visit by a Pakistan Navy delegation led by Commodore Anwar Saeed, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff, to Fleet Command II Commander Rear Admiral I G. P. Alit Jaya at the Nala VIP Building in Surabaya, East Java, on June 25.

According to Antara News Agency, Fleet Command II Information Chief Colonel Antonius Februar Prima Hadi confirmed the meeting on Friday after being contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta.

“The meeting marked an opportunity to strengthen communication and exchange views on developments in the maritime strategic environment while enhancing the bilateral relationship that has been built over the years,” Antonius said.

He said both sides discussed developments affecting the regional maritime security environment and shared assessments of emerging strategic challenges facing their navies.

The talks later expanded to plans for closer defense cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan in safeguarding their respective maritime territories and strengthening naval coordination.

Antonius did not disclose specific proposals or agreements discussed during the meeting between the two naval leaders, saying only that both sides explored opportunities to deepen future cooperation.

The meeting concluded with the exchange of commemorative plaques, reflecting the cordial atmosphere and the commitment of both navies to maintain constructive military relations.

Antonius said the meeting was expected to further strengthen ties between the Indonesian Navy and the Pakistan Navy, enabling closer cooperation and mutual support in advancing maritime defense capabilities and addressing shared security interests. (HAA)
