Jakarta, indomaritim.com – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at the Elysee Palace on Thursday as he began a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
According to Antara News Agency, Prabowo arrived at the palace in a white sedan under state escort, according to a live broadcast from Indonesia’s Presidential Secretariat.
The Indonesian president wore a gray suit paired with a peci, Indonesia’s traditional cap, and sunglasses during the welcoming ceremony.
Indonesia’s national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” was played first, with Prabowo saluting before France’s national anthem, “La Marseillaise,” followed.
After the ceremony, Prabowo introduced members of his delegation, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, and Higher Education Minister Brian Yuliarto.
Also joining the delegation were Prabowo’s son Ragowo Hediprasetyo, widely known as Didit Hediprasetyo, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo later joined a military parade aboard an ACMAT command vehicle, commonly used for visiting heads of state and official guests touring the Elysee Palace.
The visit follows an invitation from Macron that had previously been postponed.
During Prabowo’s previous trip to Paris last month, Macron invited him to return and proposed rescheduling the visit for late May.
Prabowo subsequently scheduled the state visit for this week.
The visit is expected to reinforce political, economic and strategic cooperation between Indonesia and France. (RR)
