Jakarta, Indomaritim.com – Indonesia has condemned Israeli forces for installing a military propaganda banner at the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, Palestine.
“Indonesia strongly condemns and protests the placement of the ‘Rising Lion’ banner by Israeli forces over the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on social media platform X on Wednesday.
The ministry stressed that the use of military symbols and propaganda at the site of a destroyed hospital, particularly when linked to a specific military operation, is highly provocative and cannot be justified.
Indonesia reiterated that the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza is a civilian facility dedicated solely to providing medical services to Palestinians in the enclave.
The hospital, despite being in ruins, is not a place for military propaganda or intimidation, the ministry emphasized. “This act is an insult to a humanitarian facility built from the solidarity of the Indonesian people for the Palestinian people,” it said. Indonesia also reiterated that hospitals and all medical facilities must be respected and protected under international humanitarian law. The ministry called on Israel to halt all actions that violate the protection of civilian infrastructure and to ensure accountability for attacks on medical facilities in Gaza. The Indonesian Hospital in Gaza was damaged during Israel’s military operations in the enclave from October 2023 until a ceasefire was reached in October 2025. The hospital’s director, Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, was killed along with his family when his residence in western Gaza was struck by an Israeli attack in July 2025. According to media reports, Israeli forces occupying the hospital ruins installed a “Rising Lion” military propaganda banner on the building’s roof. “Rising Lion” was also the codename of Israel’s military operation against Iran in June 2025.
