UK Royal Navy Ship HMS Tamar Visits Jakarta

Jakarta, indomaritim.com – The UK Royal Navy patrol ship HMS Tamar has arrived in Jakarta, Wednesday (June 17, 2026), marking another milestone in the strong and growing partnership between the United Kingdom and Indonesia, particularly under the Defence & Security pillar of the UK–Indonesia Strategic Partnership.

The visit highlights the UK’s long-term commitment to the Indo-Pacific and its role as a trusted partner in promoting regional stability, maritime security, and international cooperation.

During her visit, HMS Tamar will engage with the Indonesian Navy through a series of professional and cultural exchanges including a friendly football match and joint activities that underline the close ties between both nations’ armed forces.

Alongside defence engagement, the visit also features a range of public diplomacy activities designed to connect with local communities and celebrate cultural exchange. Media representatives and children from Jakarta’s coastal communities were invited onboard HMS Tamar to experience life at sea and interact with Royal Navy sailors.

The crew also took part in a gastro diplomacy event in Jakarta, sampling local cuisine and celebrating the city’s 499th anniversary. The event reflects the strong people-to-people links between the UK and Indonesia, showcasing how partnerships extend beyond defence into shared culture and friendship.

Speaking at the event, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey stated that: ” The visit of HMS Tamar to Jakarta demonstrates the United Kingdom’s enduring commitment to working alongside Indonesia as a trusted partner in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific. Through both our professional cooperation and community engagement, we are strengthening ties that go beyond defence and security —building lasting friendship between our peoples. Diplomasi, Kolaborasi, Prestasi!”.

Meanwhile, in his address, the commanding officer of HMS Tamar, Commander TS Lindsey emphasized that “I’m delighted to bring HMS Tamar and her crew to this incredible city. This visit is about more than a port call—it’s about building lasting relationships, understanding each other’s cultures, and strengthening the partnership between the United Kingdom and Indonesia. Thank you for welcoming us and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with Indonesia”.

The visit was concluded with a friendly football match between HMS Tamar’s crew and the Indonesian Navy, celebrating the spirit of teamwork and global connection inspired by the World Cup, followed by a joint cultural performance symbolising unity and friendship”. (HAA)
